The parish of Buckden lies on the Dales Way, at the northern end of Wharfedale and consists of the village itself, nestling under the impressive bulk of Buckden Pike, as well as the hamlets of Cray, Hubberholme, Raisgill, Yockenthwaite, Deepdale, Beckermonds, Oughtershaw and Greenfield.
Set in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, Buckden is a popular destination for walkers and holidaymakers, with excellent walking and many delightful places to eat, drink and stay!
There is a thriving local community with many events taking place throughout the year.
The principal commercial activities are farming and tourism with many businesses catering for the visitor, as well as for local residents.
This web-site has been created under the leadership of the Parish Council to provide a source of information about the village and the area, for both local residents and visitors.

Buckden Village Quiz: The December quiz will be on Sunday 1st December at The Buck Inn, Buckden. Take your seats from: 7.00 p.m. Quiz starts: 7.30 p.m. Entry fee - £2.50 per person. In aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Everyone welcome. Further info – email: quiz@buckden.org
Buckden Coffee Morning: Saturday December 7th. 10.30 - 12.30. The December coffee morning in the Institute will be in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Coffee/tea and cakes £3.00. Please come along and support this very worthwhile cause
Christmas wreath making workshop in the village hall on Thursday 28th November 1:30 pm with Ruth Hall, popular florist from Kilnsey. Contact Debbie if you would like to attend.
Advent Course: Haphazard by Starlight This year’s Advent course is a joint course run by the parishes that make up Upper Wharfedale, co-led by Revd Matthew Wood and Revd Tom Lusty. The course will run for four weeks from Tuesday 26 November. It is a morning session (11am – 12noon) either ‘up dale’ or ‘down dale’. Click here for a poster with course details
Buckden Singers Christmas Concert Tickets are selling briskly for the Christmas Concert in Kettlewell Village Hall on Saturday 14th December at 3.00 p.m. Tickets £8 to include seasonal refreshments. Order yours by emailing tickets@buckden.org or call Anne on 760882.

Christingle Making - At 10.30am on Christmas Eve there will be a Christingle making workshop in Buckden School Room. No previous experience is necessary as there will be folk present who have done it before. These Christingles will then be used in the service at Hubberholme Church at 4.00pm. Please come along and join in the Christmas activity.
Sleeping Beauty Badapple Theatre in association with Rural Arts on Tour presents Sleeping Beauty and the Beast at 1.00pm on Monday 23 December. Hilarious new Panto mashup with classic pantomime - japes, songs and costume changes galore - The show will last for an hour. Followed by the Children's Christmas PartyTickets £10 adults, £5 children available from Kettlewell village shop, Rural Arts, or on the door. Local children and Kettlewell schoolchildren free. Come and join the festive fun

Dalesbus Sunday Service - Winter timetable The winter timetable starts this weekend - Sunday 27th October - with the DalesBus 874 running between Wetherby, Leeds, Ilkley, Bolton Abbey, Grassington, Kettlewell and Buckden at slightly changed times. DalesBus services 875 and 876 to Hawes have now finished for the winter. The Upper Wharfdale Venturer 72B servcie is unchnaged. The new 874 timetable is avalable here

Buckden website changes Further to the WhatsApp item on the website changes a couple of weeks back, the development of the new Buckden Village site has happened more quickly than expected, and it is now live – as you will have noticed if you are reading this. The new Buckden Singers www.singers.buckden.org and Buckden Institute www..institute@buckden.org sites have gone live at the same time and the Parish Council site www.pc.buckden.org went live a couple of weeks back. The old site is still accessible at www.archive.buckden.org There is a lot of tidying up still to do which may cause the odd hiccup - if you hit a problem, please drop an email to website@buckden.org . Buckden Bonfire Night: The annual Parish bonfire will be on Tuesday 5 November at 6.00 p.m. As last year, there will be a Jacob's Join with liquid refreshment provided in the form of mulled wine and a selection of soft drinks. All welcome. Please do not start bringing stuff to burn yet - a message will go on the community WhatsApp group when it is time to start.

Buckden Coffee Morning - Saturday October 5th. 10.30 - 12.30. The October coffee morning in the Institute will be run by the Upper Wharfedale Playground group to raise funds for repairs to and refurbishment of the children's play area in Kettlewell. Board Games Cafe On Saturday October 19th (7.30 p.m.) there will be a Board Games Cafe in the Institute with the opportunity to learn some new games under expert coaching. Buck Inn Monthly Dales Music & Song Pub Sessions The first session of the new Autumn/Winter season at the Buck will be on Sunday 20 October (not the 13th as previously announced) from 2pm to 5pm to fit in with the Dalesbus Summer timetable. There may well contributions by the Yorkshire Dialect Society this time. Thereafter the second Sunday in the month. All welcome - musicians, singers and poets to perform, others to sit and listen.
Dark Sky Reserve The Yorkshire Dales National Park is hosting a training event on Dark Sky Reserve Lighting in the Yorkshire Dales. The event focuses on best practices for minimizing light pollution, particularly aimed at local businesses, tradespeople, landowners and holiday accommodation providers within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This is an informal, FREE event which will take place on Monday, 11 November 2024 at 5.30 - 7pm.
